Seamus Coleman may be stripped of Everton captaincy after source's reveal - pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed James Tarkowski could replace Seamus Coleman as Everton captain.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Tarkowski is exactly the sort of defender Frank Lampard should be signing.

An Everton source told Football Insider on Wednesday (8 June) that the 29-year-old was set for a medical after accepting a contract offer.

He is set to move to Goodison Park on a free transfer with his Burnley contract set to expire at the end of the month.

“I really liked him,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I was hoping Aston Villa would get him but they’ve decided to get Diego Carlos who I don’t really know much about but I’m sure Steven Gerrard will.

“Everton are crying out for a defender. Michael Keane is not good enough. Yerry Mina, I do like.

“I’m not sure that Lampard is keen on Holgate or Keane or Godfrey, to be honest. If Lampard could bring in two new centre-halves he would do.

“I think Tarkowski is one who could be a future captain of Everton as well. He’s a leader with Premier League experience and a top defender.

“There are not many players that get past him

“I’m not sure Keane, Godfrey and Holgate are good enough for where Everton want to go. Lampard knows he’s got to improve that squad of Everton players or it will be another relegation battle.”

Tarkowski played 195 times in the Premier League during his time with Burnley.

His performances for the Clarets were rewarded with two England caps in 2018.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued an ‘unusual’ Everton claim as a £10million-a-year deal is confirmed.
