Sessegnon dealt 'killer blow' after Tottenham update via Gold
Ryan Sessegnon has been dealt a “killer blow” after picking up a hamstring injury in pre-season at Tottenham, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted every player feared picking up fitness problems and niggles during the off-season.
As reported by Football.London’s Alastair Gold (July 29th), Sessegnon, 21, suffered a hamstring injury early in pre-season that has kept him out of training and the club’s warm-up games
The young wing-back is back in north London after his season-long loan at Hoffenheim.
Whelan insisted Sessegnon will have had high hopes of impressing new manager Nuno Espirito Santo ahead of the new campaign.
As such, he admitted the youngster’s setback will have come as a kick in the teeth.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “A player that had such high hopes when he left Fulham. He was the next big thing.
“Tottenham went straight in and bought him. It didn’t work out, he’s been out on loan. Then Mourinho gets sacked and as a player you’re thinking: ‘Right, I’ve got a clean slate here. This is my opportunity.’
“Everybody, and I mean everybody, when you come back into pre-season your biggest fear is injuries and niggles. Not getting that full pre-season under your belt.
“For him it’s even worse because he had so much to prove. To catch the eye of the new manager, force his way back into the reckoning because everyone starts afresh.
“To get a niggle now, so close to the start of the season, it’s a killer blow.”
Sessegnon played 29 times for Hoffenheim, with two goals and three assists under his belt.
He has made just 12 appearances for Spurs so far.
