Sheffield United are plotting a raid to sign Leicester City ace Daniel Amartey, Football Insider can reveal.

Blades boss Chris Wilder is looking to bring in a defensive midfielder who can also play in defence before the close of the transfer window and is convinced the Ghana international fits the bill.

A Sheffield United source has told Football Insider that the club are ready to make a late-window move Amartey, 24, ahead of next Thursday.

Wilder believes the Premier League winner's top-flight experience and versatility will make him a valuable addition to his plans ahead of his side's return to the division.

The Ghanaian is equally adept at playing in midfield as well as centre-back and this makes him an attractive proposition to the Blades boss.

Amartey has struggled to hold down a regular place in the highly competitive Leicester side since his arrival from FC Copenhagen in January 2016.

He was a member of the club's Premier League title-winning side of the 2015/16 season and he has made over 60 appearances during his three-and-a-half years at the Walkers Stadium.
