Sheffield United tactical plan just got a 'lot harder' thanks to four stars - Kenny

Slavisa Jokanovic may be planning a tactical shakeup at Sheffield United – but the international break will have slowed his progress.

So says Bramall Lane legend Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about possible solutions to the Blades’ spiralling form.

Jokanovic’s side have won just one of their last five matches and went into the international break on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

That result leaves them 18th in the Championship just months after they were relegated from the Premier League.

As quoted by The Star on 12 November, the manager appeared to hint at a tactical rethink: “If some of my players have the characteristics to do different things, why not?”

But first-team stars John Egan, Robin Olsen, Rhian Brewster and Enda Stevens are all currently away on international duty.

Kenny claims that their absence will have hampered Jokanovic’s ability to work on a new system in training.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “The international break won’t have helped because he’s had less time to sort things out.

“Once these players come back, they will only get two or three days and then they’ll be straight back into a match.

“That doesn’t give him any chance to work on tactical stuff. All the players who have gone away played against Blackburn and were disappointing.

“It will make things a lot harder, I’m sure. They are some of the players who need the most coaching and they aren’t around for it.

In other news, Kenny names three Sheffield United stars who “need to go” in January.
