Sources: Sheffield Wednesday open talks to sign Hunt amid Cardiff City interest
Sheffield Wednesday have opened talks to sign ex-Bristol City defender Jack Hunt, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The right-back, 30, is available on a free transfer after leaving Ashton Gate at the end of last month.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wednesday are working on a deal to beat rivals to Hunt’s signature.
Cardiff City and Blackpool have also expressed an interest in signing the newly-available defender, as revealed by this site on 15th July.
Hunt, who plays predominantly as a right-back but is also accomplished as a winger, was named on City’s released list in May.
He was one of 11 players let go as Nigel Pearson looks to overhaul his squad ahead of next season.

The experienced operator played 108 times for Wednesday between 2016 and 2018.
Hunt made 115 appearances after signing for City from Wednesday in 2018.
Those appearances yielded four goals and five assists.
Hunt featured 41 times for City last term as Pearson’s side finished 19th in the Championship.
Wednesday meanwhile finished rock-bottom of the division and right-back Moses Osubajo was released following their relegation.
Liam Palmer was the Yorkshire side’s first-choice right-back in 2020-21 and played 39 times in the league.
Hunt’s career has taken in spells with Huddersfield Town, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest and Rotherham in the Championship.
He has racked up 289 appearances in England’s second-tier in total.
His only experience in League One, however, came in two seasons with Huddersfield when his career was in its infancy.
