'Shocking' - Pundit Exclusive: Ancelotti may not give 'Awful' Everton player another chance
lex Iwobi will find it difficult to force his way back into the Everton starting XI after his “awful” display against Southampton, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds United striker claimed the winger has not lived up to his potential after his move from Arsenal last summer.
The Nigerian was handed his first Premier League start of the season at St. Mary’s with Richarlison serving the first of a three-game suspension.
However, with the Toffees trailing 2-0 at half-time Carlo Ancelotti opted to replace Iwobi with Bernand.
Whelan believes the 24-year-old wasted his chance to prove to the Italian that he was worthy of starting more games.
He told Football Insider: “Iwobi was shocking, he didn’t take his opportunity – whether he’s going to get another chance, I doubt it.

“He’s not been setting the world alight and he’s not been getting the fans excited since he came to Everton. They signed with a lot of hope and aspiration after seeing what he did at Arsenal but he’s not delivered. He’s not taken his chance.
“That was his moment to stamp his authority on his side and keep himself in. He’s done himself no favours. He was awful, he brought nothing to the side, so I can’t see him starting the next game.
“He’ll be on the bench but I don’t think he’s going to be a player forcing someone out of their position.”
Last weekend’s game was the third time that Iwobi had been dragged off by Carlo Ancelotti in the Premier League.
He has started just nine top-flight games for the Toffees since the Italian’s arrival last December.
