'Sign him up' - Newcastle fans want 24-year-old at club next season after hat-trick

By Will Butcher

Newcastle’s Florian Thauvin scored a hat-trick for French giants Marseille as they secured a 5-1 away win against Caen in Ligue 1 on Sunday – and fans on Twitter want him at the club next season.

The 24-year-old is currently with Marseille on a season-long loan deal from the Toon, where he has shined this season and even earned a call-up to Didier Deschamps’ France national team.

Thauvin has now scored 15 goals and laid on a further 10 strikes in assists during his 39 league and cup encounters, but his future is unclear.

Marseille possess the option to buy Thauvin permanently from the Toon, but the versatile attacker could be tempted at another crack at the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez saw his side gain promotion back to the Premier League earlier this month, and they are now within a chance of going up as champions with only a point separating them from Brighton.

Newcastle fans reacted to Thauvin’s hat-trick for Marseille, with many delighted for Marseille’s number 26 as he continued his fine form while some wanted him to return to Tyneside.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Thauvin made just 16 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions, scoring only once after joining the Toon from Marseille in the summer of 2015 for almost £16million.

However, he returned on loan to the French outfit in January 2016, only six months after signing with Newcastle before confirming another season with Marseille last summer.
