Sky journalist claims Bilic played West Ham star against wishes

By Harvey Byrne

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic decided to play wantaway star Dimitri Payet against Manchester City after the Frenchman said he wouldn’t feature in the clash, according to a reliable journalist.

It was revealed on Thursday morning by the Croatian manager that the 29-year-old wanted to leave the club, but Bilic also remains firm in keeping his best player.

Now, Sky Sports news reporter Kaveh Solhekol has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Payet told Bilic that he would not play in last Friday’s 5-0 FA Cup defeat against Manchester City.

But, the experienced manager refused to give in to the player’s wishes and brought him off the bench after 58 minutes for striker Andy Carroll.

Payet has risen to fame since moving to West Ham in the summer of 2015 for just £10.7million from Ligue 1 side Marseille.

He was an immediate star in east London, earning a new contract worth £125,000-a-week while also being recognised in the PFA Team of the Year.

However, his performances have noticeably decreased in standard this campaign with the Hammers knocked out of Europe in a so far disappointing campaign.

Payet is keen to quit the east London side, but Bilic will know that the player is irreplaceable at this stage of the season and could see West Ham fall back into the relegation fight.

In other West Ham news, Karren Brady laid into this Tottenham star over Twitter post.
