Dutch side Feyenoord are looking for £22million for Newcastle United target Nicolai Jorgensen but will “probably” accept £20million for his signing, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster have discussed the Magpies’ swoop for the 27-year-old in their transfer podcast (26/01) after journalist Keith Downey reported that the club had submitted a second bid of £15million for the Danish international, as manager Rafael Benitez looks to bolster his front line before Wednesday’s deadline.
Speaking with Dutch journalist Milan van Dongen, Sky Sports report Pete Graves was told that Newcastle would likely be successful if they were to submit a bid of £20million offer to the Eredivisie side, despite a £22million asking price.
Graves himself states that the Magpies would likely go to that figure for their top target this month in what is a positive update, after his nine goals in 19 appearances this season, which includes two strikes in the Champions League.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle are leaving it late to complete their business this month, perhaps hoping that sides drop their asking prices for stars they have failed to offload before the deadline. However, in the case of Jorgensen, Feyenoord are not exactly looking to sell him and are demanding a premium price for his signature, something which is unlikely to change come next Wednesday. There may be some negotiating room left for the Magpies to get a decent deal but with £20million seeming to be the cut off point, they will have to either meet it or move on to their next target with just days to go.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the club are just £1.25million away from securing the signing of an international star.
