Allardyce, 63, was sacked earlier on Wednesday after the Daily Mail reported that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri jetted in to wield the axe after a disappointing season for the Toffees.
Football Insider verdict
There are going to be massive changes at Goodison Park in the coming weeks as the club will now have to assemble a new coaching team to go with whoever is going to be the next man in charge. It seems at the moment that Marco Silva is the number one candidate, but the trouble that is brewing from Watford may mean it’s not even worth going for the out-of-work Portuguese man. Paulo Foncesca is an interesting alternative after a stunning season at Shakhtar Donetsk in which they won the Ukrainian title and beat Manchester City in the Champions League – a feat that few teams have achieved this term. Either way, Everton are going to be building from the ground up and it’s going to take some time for this to gel. They need to get the summer transfer window spot on otherwise they could continue to go backwards. Moshiri is probably going to sanction a big spend to get the playing squad up to scratch, but that again brings more risks.
