Sky Sports pundit: This potential Aston Villa signing would sort out the dressing room
By Harvey Byrne
Sky Sports pundit and former assistant Ray Wilkins has told that he believes John Terry would sort out the Aston Villa dressing room and that is one of the reasons why Steve Bruce is looking to sign him.
The 36-year-old centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to the Midlands giants after being pictured alongside Bruce on a coaching course, while the Independent reported on Thursday that Villa had held talks with Terry over a £60,000-a-week deal.
His signing would bring a lot of publicity to Villa due to his name, while it would also prove a head-turner to those already at the club with the five-time Premier League champion sharing the dressing room.
Now, Wilkins believes that the signing of Terry would help off the field as well as on it for Aston Villa, who have struggled with both in recent years and when asked if he could sort out the dressing room, the former Chelsea assistant responded “yes.”
“Yes, that’s why I said before,” started Wilkins speaking on TalkSPORT on Thursday morning.

“Steve’s not necessarily buying him just for playing ability, he’s buying him for the person and that’s vitally important if Steve’s going to bring that club back.
“He’s also a British man as well and that’s what you need down in that Championship. You need more British than foreign players, admittedly they have some good foreign players down there, but you need someone who’s going to scrap Monday, Tuesday, Monday Wednesday, right the way through the season and it’s a tough old league to play in.”
Terry has had a very fine playing career, which has seen him both captain Chelsea and England over a 13-year period.
He has also racked up 492 Premier League appearances, scoring 41 goals from his centre-back position and he has lifted the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup alongside his numerous league titles.
If he does join Aston Villa once his contract expires at the end of the month then he will be hoping for similar success as the club look to achieve promotion.
