Sky Sports pundit and former Tottenham winger Peter Taylor has shared that he has been left frustrated by the club’s lack of a quality striker signing.
The north London club are currently blessed by having star forward Harry Kane occupying the position upfront.
However, behind him there is very little and summer forward signing Vincent Janssen has so far failed to impress in his first few months at the club.
Now, Taylor has shared that he was frustrated last season that the club did not sign a top striker and he believes the pressure is still too much for Kane with little help from his teammates in terms of goals.
“That to me was one of the problems and one of the frustrations last season that I wanted Tottenham to go and sign another striker like Harry Kane,” started Taylor speaking on Thursday morning’s Premier League Daily Show on Sky Sports News.
“It was too much pressure on Harry every week I felt. Now I know Janssen hasn’t performed as well as people would have liked, so it’s still putting Harry under pressure, so again there will be times, it could even be tonight where as the manager I would think about leaving out Harry and wanting him to play against Stoke.”
Kane, 23, is currently leading the club’s goal scoring charts once more with 19 goals from his 25 appearances for the club in all competitions.
Attacking midfielder Dele Alli is the second top scorer with 13, while Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen trail behind 11 and seven goals respectively.
The most alarming stat however is that summer striker signing Janssen has just four goals from his 27 appearances with all of them coming from the penalty spot.
Tottenham are still competing across three competitions as they battle in the FA Cup, Europa League and the Premier League, but that may become too much as the season winds down.
