'Smith will be buzzing' at McGinn development pre- Aston Villa against Wolves - Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed “Dean Smith will be buzzing” over John McGinn’s form ahead of Aston Villa versus Wolves this weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa defender insisted the 26-year-old’s confidence would be “sky high” after his “outstanding” goal for Scotland against Israel.

The midfielder expertly curled the ball home on Saturday to help his country seal a dramatic 3-2 win in their World Cup qualifier.

The Villa star has now scored 11 goals in 39 appearances for Scotland.

He could face the Faroe Island’s tonight (Tuesday, October 12th) before returning to his club.

Hutton heralded his fellow countryman’s performance and insisted he prefers seeing McGinn in a more advanced position in midfield.

He suggested his old manager Smith would be rubbing his hands together at the midfielder’s display.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The confidence will be sky-high. It was an outstanding finish, not sure about the celebration but the finish was brilliant.

“That’s what John gives you. When he plays further back he does an excellent job but I like to see him go forward. Get shots off, get involved in play with his high energy.

“I think he’s just a fantastic player and he’s really grown into a top member of that Scotland and Villa squad.

“Dean Smith will be buzzing. I mean, John’s always full confidence, to be quite honest with you. He’ll probably come back overexcited.”

McGinn has scored once in six Premier League appearances for Villa so far this season.

The Villans lost 2-1 to Spurs in their last league outing.
