'So, so important' - Exclusive: Danny Mills reacts as Leeds United player completes 20/21 exit

Danny Mills has applauded Ryan Edmondson after the Leeds United forward agreed to join Aberdeen on loan until until January.

The former Whites and Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said it is “so, so important” for the 19-year-old to get experience of first team football.

Derek McInnes signed the English striker on Friday after the news that Sam Cosgrove, the club’s main striker, faces up to 10 weeks out with a knee problem.

Edmundson has made just two substitute appearances for Leeds in the Championship in the past three seasons and has predominantly been playing for the Whites Under-23s.

He made his debut for the Dons yesterday in a 1-0 loss to Rangers as the Scottish Premiership season kicked off.

When asked by Football Insider if a move to Pittodrie would take the teenager to the next level, Mills said: “Definitely.

“Any loan move where the players gets game time is good. It is so, so important to play games.

“Learning proper football, as I would call it, competitive football, where it really means something, is the best environment to learn. It can be a harsh environment at times but it makes you realise who is ready and who is not. It is one of the best learning experiences you could possibly have.”

When speaking on the arrival of Edmondson, McInnes said: “Ryan scores goals, he is very highly thought of at Leeds.

“We are delighted to get him, he is young, he is raw at times, but he does have potential and he gives us something a wee bit different.”

In other Leeds United news, Darren Bent has been left drooling over a “perfect” transfer raid that would be a “match made in heaven”.
