Sol Campbell omits key Tottenham defender from combined Arsenal XI
By Harvey Byrne
Former Tottenham and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has omitted Spurs’ defensive rock Toby Alderweireld from a combined north London XI.
The two fierce rivals are currently preparing to face each other at White Hart Lane on Sunday with the sides sat in second and sixth place respectively.
Naturally, it would be assumed that with Tottenham 14 points clear of the Gunners in the Premier League table a combined XI would lean favourably towards the Spurs side.
Now, while Campbell’s XI does recognise the two teams positions with the former England international selecting just three Arsenal players in the 11, as shown in the Metro, of those includes the omission of key Tottenham defender Alderweireld for the Gunners’ Laurent Koscielny.
Tottenham currently boast the best defence in the Premier League with just 22 goals conceded from their 33 matches and Alderweireld, who has played 25 of those league fixtures has been key to that impressive record at the back.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have let in a much higher 40 goals in 32 league games and have the second worst defensive record in the top-flight’s top seven with only Liverpool bettering it with 42.
Now, that record is not simply down to Koscielny, but he has played in 29 of the Gunners’ league matches and Arsene Wenger would certainly have been looking for a better defensive tally.
