John Brown issues warning about Rangers summer signings ahead of Celtic clash
By Danny Wright
Ibrox hero John Brown has warned Rangers’ summer signings that there will be no place to hide when they face Celtic on Saturday.
A host of Gers players will be earning their first taste of the Old Firm derby this weekend when Premiership leaders Celtic make the short journey across Glasgow.
Although Brown, 55, is worried that some of the summer recruits may “freeze” when it comes to the big occasion, he has highlighted Bruno Alves as one player that Pedro Caixinha will be able to rely on for the tie.
The Portugal centre-back has been hailed as one of the Gers’ best signings this year when he arrived from Italian outfit Cagliari.
And now, Brown expects him to further live up to that occasion in his first taste of the Old Firm derby on Saturday.

“It will be interesting to see how the new players react. Some could freeze but someone like Bruno Alves will relish it,” said Brown, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“With so many foreign players I think it’s going to be a rude awakening because there’s no hiding place in an Old Firm game.
“You are needing guys like Kenny Miller, more than the manager, to impress upon them what lies ahead. They won’t have experienced anything like it.
“It’s concentration — they have to be focused for 90 minutes because if you switch off against Celtic they’ll beat you. They were undefeated last season and there will be a strong case for them doing that again this season.”
Rangers were truly humbled by Celtic last season when they met six times across all competitions with Brendan Rodgers’ men winning five of the clashes.
The only time the Light Blues avoided defeat was when Graeme Murty masterminded a 1-1 draw at Parkhead while he was in caretaker charge as Caixinha watched on from the stands.
In other Rangers news, Martyn Waghorn has sent a Twitter message to this Gers mainstay after Wednesday’s announcement.
