Some Newcastle stars 'annoyed' at Howe's training ground ban

Eddie Howe is flexing his disciplinary muscle at Newcastle after he imposed a biscuit ban at the club’s training ground, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed food items such as biscuits and condiments such as ketchup have no place in an “environment of health”.

As reported by Chronicle Live (November 23rd), Howe insisted he had to “get involved” in controlling certain food items “flying around” the dressing room at Newcastle – but stopped short of confirming a ban on condiments like Antonio Conte.

As reported by The Athletic (November 10th), ketchup and mayonnaise have been removed from the menu by Conte at Hotspur Way.

The former Bournemouth manager claimed these types of changes will aid him in getting an “extra 2-3%” out of his players.

Campbell insisted Howe will be looking for discipline among his new players.

“Of course, if you like ketchup on your butty or dunking your biscuits – it will annoy you,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“But it’s just one of those things – when a new manager comes in, he is looking for discipline.

The training ground should be an environment of health – and those things don’t really fit into that.

“I’ve got no problem about managers coming in and making changes like that. It just adds another layer of discipline into these players’ games.”

Newcastle sit bottom of the Premier League after 12 games.

The Magpies have conceded the most goals in the top flight.
