Kevin Phillips has claimed Rangers defender Connor Goldson can fly at West Ham or any top English club as Virgil van Dijk has bust the SPL myth.
The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested there should not be too many doubts over the 27-year-old’s defensive ability given he plays for a title challenging side.
Football Insider has revealed the former Brighton player is the subject of interest from the Hammers, Leeds, West Brom and Fulham this summer.
Rangers value their centre-half, who still has two-year remaining on his contract at Ibrox, at £6million.
Phillips claimed if the Englishman can be half as good as former Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk he will prove a bargain to any side.
“There is always a slight worry,” he told Football Insider. “Van Dijk has bust that myth out of the window, though. If Goldson can come down and do half as well as he did someone is getting a bargain.
“There is always a slight concern because you are not being put under as much pressure up there, you are not attacked as much or do as much defending.
“If you come down here and go to a West Ham or a West Brom you are going to get really tested.
“There is always a slight concern but I would never judge until someone comes down and has a go. These clubs will have done their homework.”
Goldson made a staggering 51 appearances for the Gers last season despite the SPFL’s decision to curtail the campaign in May.
The centre-back scored four goals and provided two assists in all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side last term.
