Souness: This is Joe Lewis transfer plan at Tottenham

By Richard Parks
Graeme Souness has insisted that Tottenham’s billionaire owner Joe Lewis will aim to make a profit on the club’s star players in the coming years.
In a column for The Sunday Times, the Sky Sports pundit and former Spurs midfielder delivered a verdict on the club’s future transfer policy that he admitted will not be what fans what to hear.
Souness is convinced that star man Harry Kane should consider moving to Real Madrid in the summer and expects Bahamas-based owner Lewis and chairman Daniel Levy to cash in on the player as that is what he has always done in the past.
Levy has insisted that no Spurs player will leave the club in the next transfer window unless the board want him to, but that stance means little to Souness.
“In his other businesses, Joe Lewis, the owner, doesn’t buy them when they are perfect,” the Liverpool legend wrote in the Sunday Times. “He buys them when he thinks a bit of tweaking and a change of manager can improve it and then flogs them for a profit.
“Daniel Levy, the chairman, runs Tottenham for him along the same lines. They buy players to make them better, create value, and then sell them on.
“I believe that Harry Kane should leave for Real Madrid this summer, if he gets the chance. The fee Real will have to pay for Kane will start with a two and be followed by eight zeros. I reckon that he could become the first £200m player.
“They will pay that premium because putting the ball in the back of the net regularly is the hardest thing to do in football and, given his age, Kane should only get better. When Real come calling, they usually get who they want.”
Kane has been continuously linked with a move to Real Madrid after his stunning scoring exploits in recent years.
The striker recently broke the Premier League record for goals in a calendar year, scoring 39 in 2017 to surpass Alan Shearer’s record that had stood for 22 years.
He has followed up his 29-goal league tally of last season by netting 21 league strikes in 24 appearances this season and accumulating a remarkable 30 in 31 matches in all competitions.
