Sources: Aston Villa handed 'huge' Kalvin Phillips signing boost

Aston Villa are growing increasingly hopeful that Man City will sell midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The 27-year-old has failed to settle in Manchester and break his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans, and he could head for the exit at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

Football Insider sources first revealed that Villa have a strong interest in Phillips earlier this month (April 10)

Villa boss Unai Emery is eager to bolster his midfield department in the transfer window and believes Phillips can help to improve his side as he looks to take his high-flying team to the next level.

It is understood that Villa have been making discreet enquiries about Phillips’ availability and the information they are receiving is that City could be willing to sell at the right price.

Sources add that it is a ‘huge’ boost for Villa in their pursuit of the England midfielder.

Phillips has failed to work his way into Guardiola’s plans since his £45million move to City, making only 16 appearances for the Premier League champions across all competitions this season.

He has played just 102 minutes of Premire League football for City and failed to score or register an assist for his new side.

Alongside Phillips, the Midlands giants are plotting a double City raid with Kyle Walker also a top target for Emery this summer.

After strengthening at left-back through the signing of Alex Moreno this season, Emery is now looking to improve his right flank and is a big admirer of Walker’s experience and leadership.
