Sources: Aston Villa hijack Tottenham deal for Chukwuemeka after bid submitted
Aston Villa have hijacked Tottenham’s bid to sign Northampton Town sensation Caleb Chukwuemeka, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Londoners opened talks last month over a deal for the striker, 19, and submitted a cash-plus-player bid.
But a Villa source has told Football Insider the club are trying to beat Spurs to a deal for Chukwuemeka, who is the brother of their 17-year-old midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
The elder of the siblings could now reunite with his younger brother, who was also at Northampton before being lured to Villa in 2016.
A number of Premier League clubs have been keeping close tabs on the Town forward.
Tottenham have been in pole position after this site revealed on 24th July that they were in negotiations over a deal for Chukwuemeka and updated on 26th July to reveal they were offering Kion Etete to sweeten the deal.

Etete subsequently completed a loan move to Northampton and he joined Chukwuemeka on the bench for the team’s 1-0 opening-day League Two win over Port Vale yesterday.
Spurs are willing to pay a guaranteed sum rising to £1m with add-ons for Chukwuemeka.
But they will be wary of the financial muscle of Villa, who have already spent major sums on teenage British talent this summer.
The EFL starlet has impressed talent spotters, including Spurs recruitment adviser and their former manager David Pleat, in pre-season and there is a sense he has progressed to a new level in recent months.
Chukwuemeka is a versatile forward who broke into the Northampton first team with 28 appearances last term.
He is currently on a scholarship contract that expires next year and attempts by Northampton to offer him a professional contract have been rebuffed.
