Aston Villa will join the race for Jesse Lingard if given encouragement Man United are open to selling him when his sensational West Ham loan ends, Football Insider has learned.
The 28-year-old has reignited his career with a series of dazzling displays since joining the Londoners in January.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club are keeping tabs on the situation of Lingard, 28, going into the summer.
He is highly regarded by the club’s coaches and seen as a “Villa-type player” who could make a big impact in Dean Smith’s side.
Lingard can play anywhere behind the main striker, and even up front, but has been at his most effective at West Ham in a central attacking midfield role.
His 10 Hammers appearances have yielded a remarkable nine goals and four assists, the best spell of his up-and-down career.
This site revealed last week that Villa have set their sights on bringing in two new wide forwards.
The plan is to sign two senior attackers who can play out wide, either side of the main striker, in Smith’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.
One of those targeted is Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica, who can operate on both flanks as well as down the middle.
Like Rashica at Bremen, Lingard is out of contract at Man United in the summer of 2022.
The Premier League giants have a big decision to make on whether to keep Lingard, potentially offering him a new contract.
Alternatively, they could cash in on their academy product this summer at a time when his form has never been better and his value has escalated.
In other news, Aston Villa are working on a deal to sign West Brom playmaker.
