Aston Villa have set their sights on signing two wide forwards in the summer transfer window, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Midlands giants are set to spend big again this summer after already paying out around £250million on transfers during the reign of Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that a key area identified for reinforcements is in attack and the recruitment team are working on identifying potential targets.

The plan is to sign two senior forwards who can play out wide, either side of the main striker, in Dean Smith's favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.

Villa are prepared to spend big for the players, just as they did when recruiting Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore last summer.

The hope of the Villa hierarchy is that the promise of some top-level stars signing will show Jack Grealish he should commit to his boyhood club for the 2021-22 campaign.

But the club are braced for strong interest in their talisman and know they face a huge battle to keep him.

Villa have struggled to create and score goals during Grealish's extended injury absence, which has now been for eight league matches.

Smith's side have won just two of those and scored only seven times, with three of those coming against Fulham.
