Aston Villa are set to table a new and improved bid for Brentford striker Neal Maupay, Football Insider can reveal.
The Midlands giants have had an offer for the forward knocked back by the Championship club but are ready to make a fresh offer in a further demonstration of their financial muscle.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that they are set to bid in excess of £15million for the Frenchman following his goalscoring exploits at Griffin Park last season.
Ambitious club chiefs Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are eager to reunite Maupay with his former mentor and manager Dean Smith, now Villa are back in the top flight.
The Midlands giants have already broken their transfer record by spending £22million to prise Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge last week.
But the club are in the market for a second senior centre-forward who can make an impact in the Premier League after learning 2018-19 loan sensation Tammy Abraham will remain at Chelsea next season.
Maupay has an excellent track record in England since signing from St Etienne two years ago and has also been linked with a move to Sevilla in Spain.
He scored 28 goals and supplied nine assists from 49 matches in all competitions last season, and has netted 41 times in 95 matches for the Bees.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on signing two senior Southampton players.
