Blackburn Rovers are trying to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Norwich City goalkeeper Jon McCracken on a summer free, Football Insider understands.

A Rovers source has told Football Insider they are also closely tracking the 19-year-old, who has been capped by Scotland at youth international level.

Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian are also keeping tabs on the teenager, who was part of the matchday squad travelling home and away with Daniel Farke's side last season but has yet to make his senior bow.

HIs performances for Norwich in Premier League 2 have brought him to the attention of clubs north and south of the border as the possibility increases he will leave this summer.

McCracken joined the newly-promoted east Anglia side from Hamilton in 2016 and he is now ready to move this window in search of regular football.

The source added that Norwich are open to letting McCracken leave on a free transfer as the likelihood grows that he will switch this summer.

In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are in pole position to sign a big name after a major transfer development.
