Sources: Blackpool offering Thorniley in player-plus-cash bid for Oxford star Brannagan

Blackpool are offering Jordan Thorniley in a player-plus cash deal for Oxford United star Cameron Brannagan, Football Insider understands.

The Championship outfit are desperate to land the former Liverpool midfielder during this month’s transfer window and have already had one bid rejected.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Blackpool are refusing to give up on Brannagan and are preparing to offer centre-back Thorniley, who is currently on loan at Oxford, as a sweetener in a part-exchange deal.

Thorniley, 25, who is out of contract at Blackpool in the summer, is on a season-long loan deal at Oxford.

The Seasiders are ready to make the move permanent as part of a deal for top target Brannagan.

The former England Under-20 midfielder has netted four goals in 24 games for the U’s this season.

As revealed by Football Insider last summer(30 August), Blackpool submitted a late-window bid for Brannagan but a move failed to materialise.

However, with the contracts of both players winding down, a mutually-beneficial solution could be found.

Brannagan has just 18 months remaining on his contract at the Kassam Stadium after penning new terms in August 2020.

Thorniley, who came through the ranks at Everton, has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Oxford this term.

U’s boss Karl Robinson branded the defender “exceptional” in September.

He also refused to rule out the possibility of a permanent move.

Blackpool sit mid-table in the Championship and are just seven points off the playoff places.

Meanwhile, Oxford are fifth in the third tier – just five points off Rotherham and Sunderland, who currently occupy the automatic promotion spots.
