Sources: Blackpool submit six-figure bid for Oxford star Brannagan

Blackpool have submitted a six-figure bid for Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Championship new boys have identified the 25-year-old as a top target in the final days of the window.

A Blackpool source has told Football Insider that the club have lodged a formal offer for Brannagan and are waiting for Oxford to respond.

The midfielder has two years remaining on his contract with the League One outfit.

Brannagan came through the ranks at Liverpool and made three league appearances for the club during the 2016-17 campaign.

A season-long loan to Fleetwood was to follow before a permanent switch to the Kassam Stadium in 2018.

The centre-midfielder has been a permanent fixture at The U’s ever since and has notched 16 goals in 150 appearances.

He was named Oxford’s Player’s Player of the Season for the 2018-19 season.

Brannagan has two years remaining on his contract at Oxford after he penned a two-year extension last summer.

The Manchester-born player has scored once in six appearances across all competitions this season.

He has been deployed as part of a three-man midfield for Oxford, but can play as both an attacking and defensive midfielder.

Championship newcomers Blackpool have endured a tough start to the 2021-22 campaign following promotion last season.

The Seasiders are winless in the league this term.

Manager Neil Critchley has bolstered his squad with no fewer than 10 signings this summer.

Experienced centre-back Richard Keogh is among the most impressive captures.

Highly-rated Arsenal youngster Tyreece John-Jules has also made the switch to the north west club.

In other news, Reading are close to completing the signing of this ex-Premier League ace.
