Sources: Bristol Rovers and Stockport County race to sign Wigan Athletic starlet Luke Robinson

Bristol Rovers and Stockport County are racing to sign Wigan Athletic defender Luke Robinson, Football Insider understands.

The 20-year-old has been made available for a loan after limited game time last season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that a number of clubs in England and Scotland have shown an interest in Robinson this summer.

League One new boys Bristol Rovers and League Two newcomers Stockport are hoping to land the Scotland Under-19 international after making contact over a potential deal.

Robinson’s contract was due to expire this June but the club confirmed in their retained list that they had offered him a new deal.

Wigan rejected loan offers from Bristol Rovers and Leyton Orient for the defender in the January window.

Leam Richardson did not want to weaken his squad halfway through a promotion campaign.

Robinson made just 10 appearances for Wigan in the 2021-22 season though.

Six of those outings came in the EFL Trophy before the Latics were knocked out of the competition on penalties by Sutton United.

The left-back has made 34 appearances for Wigan since his debut against Sunderland in December 2020.

He was handed a major role in the side during the 2020-21 campaign.

The Englishman, who came through the ranks at Wigan, started 25 league games that year.

The Latics finished 20th that year and narrowly avoided relegation from League One.

In other news, a sources has revealed that Reading have set their sights on signing a Leeds United star after green light is given.
