Sources: Burnley pull plug on signing Callum O'Hare after new twist

Burnley have pulled the plug on their pursuit of Coventry City star Callum O’Hare, sources have told Football Insider.

The relegated side have been chasing the attacker, 24, all summer and have had multiple bids rejected by their Championship rivals.

Now, the Clarets have ended their interest in O’Hare and have decided to pursue alternative targets.

This is because scans on the star’s hamstring injury have revealed that he is facing up to two months on the sidelines.

O’Hare‘s injury is a blow to Burnley’s transfer plans and also for Coventry as they will have to make do without one of their key performers for the opening months of the season.

The midfield star signed a contract extension until June 2024 in January and Football Insider revealed earlier this year (18 April) that the Sky Blues had placed a price tag of £5million on his head.

Former Aston Villa youngster O’Hare had an outstanding campaign for Coventry last season, notching five goals and eight assists.

But the former England Under-20 international is now facing months out of action after suffering a serious hamstring injury in training.

Burnley have wasted no time in identifying alternative targets as they attempt to replace stars like Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (9 August) that the Clarets have had a £2.5million bid rejected by Cardiff for 20-year-old attacker Isaak Davies.

Vincent Kompany’s side have a big budget to work with after the big-money sales of McNeil, Cornet, Nathan Collins, and Nick Pope.

New signing Kasey Palmer is the prime candidate to fill the hole left by O’Hare following his arrival from Bristol City earlier this summer.
