Rangers have set their sights on signing River Plate sensation Santos Borre in two weeks' time, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The former Atletico Madrid striker, 25, is out of contract at the Argentine club at the end of this month.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that has alerted Rangers and they have a concrete interest in a summer deal.

But they will face competition from multiple clubs for the signature of the four-times Colombia international.

Borre is valued at £15million by River Plate as a result of his pedigree and track record in south America.

He scored 22 goals from 42 matches in 2019-20 and his 146 appearances for the Argentine club have yielded an impressive 56 goals.

At international level, he competes with Rangers' star man Alfredo Morelos for a place in the Colombia side.

River Plate now facing losing one of their prize assets for nothing.

He is not expected to sign an extension to his contract at the club he joined from Atletico in 2017.

Borre spent two years at the Madrid giants but did not play for them and was instead loaned to Villarreal and Deportivo Cali for a season apiece.

Rangers currently have four senior strikers on their books - main man Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe, who signed new contract two weeks ago.

Of that quartet, Morelos has long been linked with a transfer but none have materialised despite extensive talks with clubs across Europe in previous windows.
