Sources: Celtic attacker reaches agreement in principle to join new club

Celtic starlet Barry Hepburn is close to agreeing terms with Bayern Munich, Football Insider understands.

The forward, 16, is on the verge of quitting the Scottish champions to follow fellow Hoops academy product Liam Morrison to Germany.

A source with knowledge of Hepburn’s situation has told Football Insider that he is poised to accept the offer from Bayern and finalise what would be a sensational transfer.

An agreement has been reached in principle for the Scotland Under-17 international to join the exodus of young British stars to the Continent.

Hepburn is regarded as one of the best young attacking prospects to emerge from north of the border in recent years.

The teenager has caught the eye of Bayern scouts with his performances in Celtic’s and Scotland’s youth sides.

Celtic want to keep Hepburn, who has progressed through the club’s ranks since joining as a schoolboy, but accept they are fighting a losing battle, just as they did with Morrison this time last year.

The club would only receive minimal compensation from Bayern for Hepburns’s training and development costs, because of Fifa cross-border rules.

He is currently on a youth contract, although he has been eligible to sign professional terms with Celtic since he turned 16 at the start of last month.

Morrison has spent the season playing for Bayern’s Under-17s, who are managed by former Germany goal machine Miroslav Klose.
