Celtic are negotiating personal terms with winger Kyle Edwards as they step up plans to sign him this summer, Football Insider has learned.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are set to offer a contract to Edwards after discussing terms.

The Glasgow giants are aware of rival interest from English clubs in the left-sided attacker.

Edwards was the subject of a confirmed enquiry from Championship club Luton Town in January but that was knocked back by West Brom.

The Baggies did not want to loan out any of their senior stars while their Premier League status was still up in the air.

The Albion academy product has been targeted to fill the gap left by the exit of Mohamed Elyounoussi, who has returned to Southampton after two seasons on loan at Celtic.

Like Elyounoussi, Edwards is a right-footed attacker who tends to operate from the left flank.

He graduated from the West Brom youth ranks to make 49 appearances, five of which came in last season's Premier League campaign.

The now-Championship outfit released a statement last month to reveal he was one of seven senior departures along with Hal Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin, Kamil Grosicki, Branislav Ivanovic, Lee Peltier, and goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

Ange Postecoglou has given the green light to the pursuit of Edwards as his side work on snapping up bargains from south of the border.

It will not be a free transfer as the Scottish giants would need to pay compensation to West Brom for the player's development costs.

But cross-border rules mean Celtic will only have to pay around £300,000 for the Albion academy product.

The Hoops last week announced the signing of teenage defender Osaze Urhoghide following the expiry of his Sheffield Wednesday contract as he followed Liam Shaw to Glasgow.
