Celtic have reignited their pursuit of Sheffield United defender George Baldock as they look to solve their right-back dilemma, Football Insider understands.
The Scottish champions were forced to begin their Champions League qualifying campaign with centre-back Kristoffer Ajer at right-back in their 3-1 win over FK Sarajevo in Bosnia last night.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider the club are working on multiple right-back targets as they look to bring in two players for the position before the window shuts next month.
One of those is United’s Baldock, who, as revealed by Football Insider, was the subject of a £3million bid from the Hoops last month that was knocked back.
The newly-promoted Premier League club are hoping to secure Baldock to a new contract, but their failure to do so has opened the door to a fresh move from Celtic.
Neil Lennon and the Celtic recruitment team are looking to sign a proven right-back who can replace Mikael Lustig, who left the club this summer to join Belgian side Gent after being told he would not get a new contract.
Cristian Gamboa has also departed and Jeremy Toljan, the third senior right-back in the second half of last season, has headed back to Borussia Dortmund after his loan.
That has left a series of openings in a key position that Celtic have struggled to fill in recent years, leading to Ajer filling in for their European clash last night.
