Chelsea are among the sides eyeing a move for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after he was frozen out at Brighton, sources have told Football Insider.

Seagulls boss Roberto de Zerbi has chosen to promote 32-year-old Jason Steele into the number one role - and has been clear that he wants to see improvement in Sanchez's game.

This news has put clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United on high alert - after Football Insider revealed on Monday (20 March) that the three clubs are likely to battle for top goalkeeping targets this summer.

Chelsea

The Blues want to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper in the off-season despite the generally fine form of Kepa Arrizabalaga this term.

Leeds star Illan Meslier, Brentford's David Raya, Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper Gregor Kobel, and Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak are among the other targets for some of England's elite sides.

Current Chelsea boss Graham Potter enjoyed a good relationship with Sanchez during their time together at the Amex Stadium.

The 25-year-old made 70 appearances under Potter at Brighton but has been dropped for Steele just six months after De Zerbi arrived at the club.

As quoted by The Argus (18 March), the Italian insisted it was a "difficult decision" but claimed he wants to see a change in Sanchez's "style of play" before he can be restored to the lineup.

Sanchez had kept six clean sheets in 22 Premier League games this season prior to the decision, and returned to the lineup with a shut-out as Brighton beat Grimsby in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Nevertheless, the two-cap star has still been called up to the senior Spain squad for this month's Euro 2024 qualifiers - alongside Chelsea's Arrizabalaga and Brentford's Raya.

Chelsea

Chelsea are planning an overhaul of their goalkeeping options this summer, with sources telling this site on Monday (20 March) that Edouard Mendy and the Blues have decided to part ways at the end of the season.

The Senegal international had held talks over a new Stamford Bridge contract, but he has no intention of playing second fiddle to Arrizabalaga or any potential new number one.
