Sources: Chelsea stance on accepting 'sensational' £90m Reece James offer revealed

Chelsea are feeling comfortable about keeping hold of Reece James this summer despite interest from Real Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.

The La Liga giants have registered interest in signing the 23-year-old right-back this summer despite him recently signing a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

James signed a six-year contract with the Blues in September, keeping him in London until 2028.

Real are considering submitting what sources say would be a “sensational” bid for James this summer to test Chelsea’s resolve. It is understood that their offer will be worth between £80-90million.

However, Chelsea have no interest in selling James at the end of the season and are feeling confident that his long-term plans lie with them.

Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (31 March) that Chelsea are braced for a huge bid for James this summer.

Graham Potter views James as a key player in his dressing room and a future club captain at Stamford Bridge.

The English manager labelled him “fantastic” earlier this season while raving about his lofty potential.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with him. He’s got a lot to offer – he’s fantastic. He could play any game in the world – he’s tremendous. My job is to help him reach his potential because his potential is beyond the sky,” Potter said.

James has spent the entirety of his senior career with the Blues after working his way through the club’s Cobham academy during his childhood years.

He first reached the first team in 2018 and after a brief loan stint with Wigan Athletic, James has gone on to make 142 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea.
