Sources: Clubs queuing up to sign Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal twist
There will be no shortage of potential suitors for Aaron Ramsdale in the coming transfer windows if he loses his Arsenal place full-time, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (22 September) that Ramsdale is not willing to be the second-choice goalkeeper for Mikel Arteta following David Raya’s recent introduction to the side.
Raya has played each of the last three games for Arsenal, including Sunday’s (24 September) 2-2 derby draw with Tottenham.
It is believed Ramsdale is not even contemplating a move away from the Emirates Stadium at this time.
Instead, the 25-year-old is fully focused on regaining the number one role from on-loan Raya.
Ramsdale earned his fourth cap for England earlier this month as the Three Lions beat Scotland at Hampden Park.
The shot-stopper wants to play in goal for his country at next year’s European Championships in Germany – but now faces the prospect of losing out on first-team football just months out from the tournament.
It is believed several clubs are queuing up to sign the ex-Bournemouth star if he chooses to leave Mikel Arteta’s side in the near future.
Raya is also a full international for Spain and could go to the tournament as his nation’s first-choice shot-stopper.
Ramsdale – who only signed a new deal earlier this year – played the first four games of the 2023-24 campaign, keeping one clean sheet and conceding four goals.
Raya has since played three times for Arsenal – conceding twice and keeping two clean sheets.
Following the draw against Tottenham, Arteta’s side now sit four points adrift of Man City – despite both sides being unbeaten in the 2023-24 campaign.
Ramsdale could return to the teamsheet when the Gunners face Brentford in League Cup action on Wednesday (27 September).
In other news, Arsenal now working on agreeing two more marquee deals.
