Liverpool star Curtis Jones is in advanced talks over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder's current deal, worth around £30,000-a-week, is due to run until the summer of 2025.

Liverpool are now close to finalising an extension for Jones that will add another year to his deal and hand him a pay hike.

The 21-year-old has been a fringe figure this season with injuries restricting him to only seven appearances.

However, Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the Anfield academy product and believes he can remain an important player in the future.

This season, the German has utilised Jones both in central midfield and on the left side of Liverpool's three-pronged attack.

The Liverpool-born starlet came through the ranks at the Reds and made his first-team debut in January 2019.

He qualified for a Premier League winners medal in the 2019-20 campaign after making six appearances from the substitutes' bench - scoring once.

Jones has also been a regular for England's Under-21 side since his debut in October 2020 - netting three goals in 12 caps.

The youngster could have an opportunity to step up into a more regular role for the Merseysiders, with midfield stars Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of contract at the end of this season.

Liverpool signed off for the mid-season World Cup break with a 3-1 win over the Saints at Anfield on Saturday (12 November).

Klopp's side sit sixth in the Premier League table - seven points outside of a Champions League place.
