Keinan Davis is set to stay at Aston Villa after a crushing injury blow, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Midlands giants were planning to loan out the striker amid extensive Championship club interest.

But a Villa source has told Football Insider that Davis’ injury is set to rule him out for two months and end his hopes of a move in the first half of the season.

Stoke City have led the race for the front man and held talks over a deal but the potential transfer has now collapsed.

It is a major blow to the 23-year-old who was set to finally enjoy an extended run in senior football.

Davis has played 33 Premier League games in the past two seasons, including just five starts.

He netted his first top-flight goal against West Brom in April but it is still unlikely he will break into Dean Smith's side.

Ollie Watkins missed just one Premier League game last season and Wesley has returned from a long-term injury.

Stoke boss Micahel O'Neill revealed on 24 July he was interested in bringing Davis to the club.

The two clubs met in a pre-season friendly and Davis seriously impressed O'Neill.

Football Insider revealed earlier today (2 August) Stoke are now in advanced talks with Manchester City starlet Liam Delap.

The striker, son of Stoke legend and current coach Rory, is regarded as one of the best 18-year-olds in England.
