Sources: De Vrij tells friends latest on Tottenham move with January a possibility

Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij has told friends he is interested in joining Tottenham in January, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Holland international is a leading target for new manager Antonio Conte as he looks to strengthen the team’s defence.

A source with knowledge of De Vrij’s situation has told Football Insider that he is aware of interest from Tottenham and is keen to hear what they have to say.

He has asked English friends for more information on what Spurs are like as a club as well as what life is like in London.

A January move is a possibility for De Vrij, especially if he does not agree an Inter contract extension.

The Serie A winner’s current deal expires in the summer of 2023 and he is valued around the £40million mark.

That has opened the doors to suitors keen to recruit a centre-back regarded as being in the top bracket in world football.

De Vrij is rated even more highly by Conte than Milan Skriniar, who came close to joining Spurs in the summer of 2020 and again in January of this year.

The Dutchman was a mainstay of Conte’s Inter side that romped to the recent Serie A title last season with a 12-point cushion.

Capped 55 times by Holland, he has an outstanding record operating in the three-man defence that has continued to be used this season since the summer exit of the Italian coach.

De Vrij has started 15 of Inter’s 16 Serie A and Champions League matches this term.

In other news, Premier League 28-year-old will be “first through the door at Tottenham in January” as new signing lined up.
