Sources: Derby County plot move to sign Portsmouth star Clark Robertson

Derby County are plotting a move for Portsmouth captain Clark Robertson, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old defender is out of contract next summer and League One promotion hopefuls Derby are preparing a January swoop.

Rams boss Paul Warne is a big admirer of centre-back Robertson having worked with him at Rotherham and sees him as a key addition to his rebuilding plans at Pride Park.

Robertson has made 18 appearances for Pompey this season with 16 of those being starts.

He missed the start of the season through injury but has been undroppable since his return.

Warne knows Robertson well from their time together at Rotherham as the defender made 69 appearances under the new Rams boss.

The versatile defender helped the MIllers return to the Championship before departing to join Portsmouth in July 2021.

Robertson began his career at Aberdeen before moving and making his name at Blackpool in 2015.

The Scot made 127 appearances for the Seasiders and helped the club return to the third tier after suffering relegation during the 2016-17 season.

He then moved to the New York Stadium but was never able to hold down a regular spot in the starting XI.

Portsmouth sit eighth in League One, one point behind the Rams.

They are next in action against Accrington Stanley on Saturday (10 December).

Meanwhile, Derby County next face Burton on the same afternoon.

In other news, Sources have also told Football Insider that Norwich City and West Brom are plot tingmoves for Aston Villa sensation Lamare Bogarde.
