Everton have agreed personal terms with Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes as they close in on their first summer signing, Football Insider understands.
The Merseysiders have been working for months on the capture of the 22-year-old even though he signed a new contract with the French club only in February.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that the club have offered a lucrative five-year contract to Magalhaes that has been provisionally accepted.
It will see the Brazilian secure a huge pay rise just months after penning an extension committing him to Lille until 2023.
That can now be seen mainly as a device for the French club to enhance the market value of one of their prize assets.
Everton have already tabled a £30million bid for the 6ft 3in colossus that is likely to be agreed by the French club.
The Merseysiders are well placed to complete the transfer as soon as the summer transfer window opens.
That could well be delayed due to the pandemic that has suspended football across the globe since the second week of March.
Magalhaes has been targeted by Everton after his impressive development during his three years at the Ligue 1 club.
He has made 52 appearances for fourth-placed Lille, 34 of which have come this season, including six in the Champions League.
The left footed centre-back has previously had spells on loan at Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb.
