Sources: Everton keen to blow Celtic out of water to sign contract rebel next month

Everton are keen to blow Celtic out of the water in the race to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Josef Bursik next month, Football Insider can reveal.

The England Under-20 international is on the radar of a number of leading clubs after entering the final six months of his contact at Championship big hitters.

An Everton source has told Football Insider the club are keeping close tabs on Bursik and readying a move to beat Celtic and other clubs to his signature.

The cash-rich Merseysiders are aware that Burski has yet to agree a new contract with Stoke and can be prised from the Bet365 Stadium for a bargain fee next month.

This comes after Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Celtic are keeping close tabs on Bursik ahead of the January window.

Bursik, 19, has yet to indicate whether the is willing to extend his current deal at Stoke after being loaned out to League One outfit Accrington for the entirety of this campaign.

He is not keen to return to Stoke and play for the Under-23s and be a bit-part figure in the English second tier.

Bursik has made three appearances in total for Accrington after spending most of the campaign on the bench.

He has started their last two league matches, conceding two goals in a 4-1 win against Portsmouth and a 1-1 draw against Doncaster Rovers.

Celtic’s interest in Bursik comes at a time when there is a great deal of uncertainty over the senior keeper positions at the club beyond this season.

Fraser Forster is due to return to parent club Southampton at the end of the campaign, while Craig Gordon is out of contract next summer and has revealed there have been no talks with the club over an extension.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that Brendan Rodgers is ready to blow his former club out of the water to sign 6ft 4in colossus in January.
