Everton will listen to offers for Yerry Mina if Carlo Ancelotti succeeds in recruiting an A-list central defender this summer, Football Insider understands.
This site broke the news on 22nd March that Ancelotti had made Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly his top target as he looks to recruit a “world-class” centre-back.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that the club are keen to cash in on Mina to part-fund the pursuit of Koulibaly or a defender of his calibre.
The Merseysiders would not expect to fetch more than £20million for the Colombia international in the next window.
Ancelotti admires Mina physicality but privately believes he is too erratic and error-prone for a top-tier side.
With transfer fees expected to nosedive across the board, the sums Everton will be spending on another big-money signing drive are also in line to significantly drop.
Everton are planning to work on a deal for Koulibaly even though he turns 30 in June and will have little sell-on value.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Ancelotti does not believe the current Everton combinations at centre-back work together.
That explains why he has continually swapped between a three-man defence and an orthodox back four this season.
Of Everton’s four senior centre-backs, each of Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate have started at least 18 Premier League matches.
In their last match, Mina was recalled to a three-man defence and Keane dropped to the bench as Everton held out for 84 minutes against Man United in the FA Cup before falling to a 2-0 defeat.
The Colombian has been a mainstay of the team since signing in Barcelona in 2018 for around £27million.
He has made 72 appearances in three seasons, including 19 league starts among 24 matches this term.
