Fleetwood Town have agreed a deal to sign MK Dons defender Zak Jules, Football Insider understands.

The former Reading player, 24, has made 12 appearances in all competitions for the League One outfit this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Fleetwood have raided League One rivals MK Dons for Jules to fill the void left by James Hill’s recent departure to Bournemouth.

There has been a breakthrough in negotiations today and a deal is now all but done.

The defender has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season but only seven of those have been in League One.

One of those outings was against Fleetwood as he played 90 minutes in 28 September's 3-3 draw.

Jules began his career with Reading where he failed to make a senior appearance but spent time out on loan with Hemel Hempstead Town, Braintree Town and Motherwell.

He switched to Shrewsbury Town in 2017 but again failed to make a first-team appearance, though he did feature on loan with Chesterfield, Port Vale and Barnet before signing for Macclesfield Town on a permanent basis in January 2019.

He then spent two years at Walsall before switching to MK Dons on 1 February 2021.

Jules ended that season with 20 total appearances to his name.

After falling down the pecking order this season, he is set to leave MK Dons after less than a year at the club, making 32 total appearances.

Fleetwood lost a regular starter when Hill joined Bournemouth earlier this month.

He had made 13 League One appearances this season and left the Cod Army in 19th place.
