Swansea City are set to complete the signing of Wigan Athletic attacker Jamal Lowe today, Football Insider can reveal.
The 26-year-old, who celebrated his birthday last month, is set to be the latest player to exit the DW Stadium following the club’s administration and relegation from the Championship.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the forward is undergoing a medical and finalising personal terms after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.
The Swans have beaten off competition from Millwall and Preston North End for the English winger.
Lowe has two years remaining on his contract at Wigan having put pen to paper on a three-year deal upon his £2.5million arrival from Portsmouth in August 2019.
He impressed in his debut Championship campaign. His 46 league appearances last season yielded six goals and five assists.
The right-winger rose up the ranks at Barnet and has played for a number of non-league clubs including Boreham Wood, St. Albans City, Hemel FC and Hampton & Richmond Borough before making a move to Fratton Park.
He becomes part of the exodus at Wigan – David Marshall, Joe Williams, Antonee Robinson and Joe Gelhardt are but some of the names that have already departed this summer.
Lowe will join Korey Smith at the Liberty Stadium after the midfielder signed on a free following his release from Bristol City.
Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman have also joined the club on season-long loan deals.
Swansea boss Steve Cooper is in the market for offensive reinforcements having seen Conor Gallagher and Rhian Brewster return to Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively, following their impressive loan spells in Wales.
The Swans will hope to go one better in the 2020/21 campaign having lost out in the Play Off semi-finals last season.
