Sources: Halifax Town agree deal for Preston North End star Thomas

Halifax Town have agreed to sign Preston North End forward Jamie Thomas, Football Insider understands.

The 25-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Preston and has not featured in the Championship so far this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that National League promotion hopefuls Halifax have struck a deal to take Thomas on loan for the rest of the season.

It is expected to be completed in the next days.

Thomas penned a one-year deal at Deepdale in August 2021 following an impressive trial period at the club.

Preston have the option to extend the forwards’ stay by an extra year.

Thomas’ Lilywhites trial came about after the former Wales under-19 international scored against the Championship side in a pre-season friendly while playing for non-league side Bamber Bridge.

The Blackpool-born striker has played just seven minutes of senior action this term, all of which came in the League Cup.

Thomas came through the ranks at Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers but failed to make a senior appearance for either side.

He then joined Burnley’s development squad but was shipped out on loan to Ayr United.

He played seven times for the Scottish club during the 2016/17 season.

A footballing hiatus followed before Thomas found his feet again in England’s non-league.

He had spells at Squires Gate, AFC Blackpool, and Bamber Bridge.

The striker now looks set to return to non-league football, with promotion-chasing Halifax on the verge of completing a deal.

The West Yorkshire side sit second in the National League table, level on points with league leaders Chesterfield.

The Shaymen face Boreham Wood at home tonight (25 January).
