Sources: Hearts open talks to sign Peterborough star Grant

Hearts are in talks to sign Peterborough midfielder Jorge Grant, Football Insider understands.

The forward, 27, was placed on the transfer list at Posh at the end of last season following their relegation from the Championship.

A Hearts source has told Football Insider they lead the race to land the former Nottingham Forest man this summer ahead of multiple rival clubs.

Grant still has two years left to run on his Peterborough contract but became a peripheral figure when Grant McCann took over as manager towards the end of February.

After scoring twice and providing three assists in 21 Championship games in the 2021-22 season before McCann’s arrival, Grant made just a further five appearances under the new manager.

He only moved to London Road last summer (2021) but is now a target for Robbie Neilson’s Hearts.

The Jambos finished third in the Scottish Premiership in the 2021-22 campaign and need to bolster the squad as they prepare for Europa League football in the 2022-23 season.

They have already added attacker Alan Forrest on a free transfer from Livingston as well as defenders Kye Rowles and Lewis Neilson from Central Coast Mariners and Dundee United, respectively.

Before moving to Peterborough, Grant was named in the PFA League One team of the season in 2020-21 while with Lincoln City when they lost the play-off final.

He has also had spells on loan with Notts County, Luton Town and Mansfield Town while a Forest player.
