Inter Milan are interested in re-signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea this summer but only on loan, Football Insider understands.

The club-record signing has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and this site revealed last month (20 March) he is "not happy" and wants to quit.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Inter are eyeing a potential move for Lukaku as they look to recruit a new centre-forward this summer.

Chelsea

But the Serie A giants want only a loan deal and not a permanent transfer.

That may not appeal to Chelsea, given the £97million outlay on the Belgian international only last summer.

Football Insider revealed details in January of a bust-up behind the scenes between the superstar striker, 28, and Thomas Tuchel and a source close to the club has updated to explain their relationship remains tense.

Lukaku hasn't started in any of Chelsea's last four Premier League games and also failed to start against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday (6 April).

Kai Havertz, 22, has instead been chosen to lead the line in recent weeks.

Lukaku has 12 goals in 36 outings to his name this season, which pales in comparison to the form he found at Inter during the 2020/21 campaign.

The Belgium international bagged 30 goals in 44 games as he led his side to a long-awaited Scudetto.

Inter remain in the Serie A title race this season but currently sit in third, four points off the top of the table.

Edin Dzeko was signed in a bid to replace Lukaku's goals but he has only scored 12 in the league so far this term.
