Sources: Joseph undergoes Swansea City medical after Celtic and Newcastle offers snubbed

Kyle Joseph has undergone a Swansea City medical as he finalises a move from Wigan Athletic, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site broke the news yesterday (10th June) that the striker, 19, had agreed to join the Welsh club ahead of a number of elite Premier League and Scottish clubs.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Joseph began a Swansea medical yesterday as he put the finishing touches to a transfer regarded by the club as a major coup.

Joseph is a free agent from next month when his Wigan deal expires but the Swans will pay a compensation fee of close to £1million.

The Championship outfit fended off strong interest Celtic and Newcastle United, who were offered long-term contracts to the teenage Scot.

Rangers and Tottenham also sounded out the teenage star before pulling out of the race.

Joseph has been attracted by Swansea’s plans for his development, which include the prospect of regular game time.

That would prove far harder to come by at Tottenham and Newcastle, while he would likely also have to bide his time at Celtic.

Manager Steve Cooper also has an impressive track record of coaching and developing young players.

Joseph made a big impression in the middle of the 2020-21 campaign before breaking down with a back injury.

The London-born youngster, who has been capped at Scotland at Under-19 level, did not make his debut until October and then banged in five goals from just 14 league appearances.
