Leeds United have made a move to sign Portsmouth hot-shot Jamal Lowe as they look to beat West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough to his signature, Football Insider sources understands.

Lowe has been one of the stand-out performers in League One so far this season with the attacker spearheading Portsmouth's push for promotion from League One.

The 24-year-old forward is Portsmouth's top scorer with 10 goals so far this season his performances have brought him to the attention of several clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Scouts from West Brom, Forest and Middlesbrough have made regular checks on Lowe this season and they are weighing up moves for the former Hampton & Richmond man in this month's transfer window.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Leeds, led by transfer negotiator Victor Orta, have started preliminary discussions about a deal for the attacker as they search for reinforcements ahead of the promotion run-in.

West Brom, Forest and Middlesbrough are also looking to strengthen their attacking options this month as they look to bolster their bids to try and win promotion to the Premier League and Lowe figures highly on their wanted lists.

Portsmouth will be reluctant to lose their prize asset this month as they look to maintain their promotion bid, but they are bracing themselves for offers for Lowe.
